2. I am hailed as the Father of Free Verse.

3. The following passage exemplifies my writing style:
"The sexton stood in the porch of Milford meetinghouse, pulling busily at the bellrope. The
old people of the village came stooping along the street. Children, with bright faces, tripped
merrily beside their parents, or mimicked a graver gait, in the conscious dignity of their
Sunday clothes. Spruce bachelors looked sidelong at the pretty maidens, and fancied that the
Sabbath sunshine made them prettier than on week days. When the throng had mostly
streamed into the porch, the sexton began to toll the bell, keeping his eye on the Reverend Mr.
Hooper’s door. The first glimpse of the clergyman’s figure was the signal for the bell to cease
its summons."

Unsheathing my rapier, I began to grope with it about the recess; but the thought of an instant
reassured me. I placed my hand upon the solid fabric of the catacombs, and felt satisfied. I
reapproached the wall; I replied to the yells of him who clamoured. I reechoed—I aided—I
surpassed them in volume and in strength. I did this, and the clamourer grew still."

My vacation was not much fun. In fact, it was horrible. We went to Fiji. Fiji is a collection of hundreds of islands in the Pacific ocean. We had expected to lie out on the beach every day. We also hoped to swim in the ocean every day. The ocean waters there are normally warm and inviting. The weather, however, did not cooperate. It rained every day. The wind blew continually. Answers

The long awaited-dream-vacation was no fun at all, much to my disappointment. in fact, it was down-right horrible! We decided to aim for as much adventure as possible and went to Fiji. Fiji is a collection of hundreds of islands in the Pacific Ocean, known for their renown beauty. My family and I had planned to relax on the beaches and enjoy the warm weather everyday. We also hoped to enjoy the beautiful scenery under the ocean while we were there. The water is usually warm, soothing and inviting. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and dashed our dreams. It rained and poured freezing rain all day, and everyday. A strong wind lashed at everything in its path, and created a soggy scene. With nothing to do, we were miserable the whole time we were in Fiji. My family and I were more that relieved to go back home.

Final answer:

The paragraph combines multiple sentences about a disappointing vacation in Fiji, emphasizing the poor weather conditions that conflicted with the expected warm and inviting beach experience.

Explanation:

My vacation to Fiji, a picturesque group of islands in the Pacific Ocean, was anticipated to be filled with sun-soaked days on the beach and daily swims in the normally warm and inviting waters. However, the experience was far from the idyllic scenery I had envisioned; the weather did not cooperate, with relentless rain and wind every day, rendering our stay there rather miserable. Despite Fiji's potential for a great holiday destination, we found ourselves longing for the comfort of home, glad to leave behind the dreariness that marred our vacation.

Read the excerpt from President Ronald Reagan’s Address at Moscow State University.

But progress is not foreordained. The key is freedom—freedom of thought, freedom of information, freedom of communication. The renowned scientist, scholar, and founding father of this university, Mikhail Lomonosov, knew that. "It is common knowledge," he said, "that the achievements of science are considerable and rapid, particularly once the yoke of slavery is cast off and replaced by the freedom of philosophy." You know, one of the first contacts between your country and mine took place between Russian and American explorers. The Americans were members of Cook's last voyage on an expedition searching for an Arctic passage; on the island of Unalaska, they came upon the Russians, who took them in, and together with the native inhabitants, held a prayer service on the ice.

In this excerpt, President Reagan expresses his opinion that the key to progress is freedom. This is

President Reagan expresses his opinion that the key to progress is freedom. This is a substantiated opinion because Reagan quotes an expert. Therefore, the correct option is option A.

What is excerpt?

An excerpt is indeed a quotation from that other resource that the author introduces with fresh language in a sentence. This phrase is taken from Thomas Jefferson's 1801 inaugural speech: As he warned his audience, "I may often go wrong by defect of judgement," Jefferson admitted the fallibility of human nature. "I shall frequently err through lack of judgement" is the excerpt.

This is a brief passage from a lengthy work, hence being an excerpt first from Declaration of Independence: "When it comes to necessary for one nation to cut the political ties that have bound them to another, and also to assume among powers of the world," says the philosopher Aristotle. President Reagan expresses his opinion that the key to progress is freedom. This is a substantiated opinion because Reagan quotes an expert.

The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight, and turning my head to watch it, I saw that I was not alone—fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor’s mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars. Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby himself, come out to determine what share was his of our local heavens. The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows suggests that he prefers to go out at night. he is very busy during daytime hours. he prefers to be left alone. he is a man of mystery and secrets.

Answers

Final answer:

The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby suggests that he is a man of mystery and secrets. His confident, solitary presence in the night conveys his introspective nature and the mystery surrounding his character as depicted by the flawed narrator, Nick Carraway.

Explanation:

The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows does indeed suggest something about his character. Considering F. Scott Fitzgerald's nuanced portrayal of Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, it can be argued that Gatsby's emergence from the shadows indicates that he is a man of mystery and secrets. Fitzgerald’s characters, as noted in The Fitzgerald Reader, are complex individuals, and Gatsby, as the titular character, is no exception.

In the context of the passage, Gatsby standing alone in the moonlight, watching the stars, conveys a sense of contemplation and introspection that aligns with the private nature of his character. His leisurely movements and secure positioning imply a man who is confident and contemplative in the privacy of the night.

The answer is A, Prometheus gave mortals the gift of fire. Zeus had said that mortals should not have fire, but Prometheus, favoring man over the gods, went against this. Zeus eventually found out about this, however, and had Prometheus chained to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains. Not only that, but he was torn at relentlessly by a giant eagle. Zeus was rather cruel when it came to punishments, I must say.

The narrator in 'All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace' expresses a desire to live in a utopian future where humans coexist harmoniously with intelligent machines in a nature-preserved ecosystem.

The narrator in the poem All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace does not express a mistrust of machines, an obsession with technology, or ambivalence about religion. Instead, the narrator reveals a desire to live in a utopian future where humans and intelligent machines coexist harmoniously and nature is preserved. The optimistic view of machines suggests that technology could lead to a more balanced ecosystem where machines care for human needs without dominating them, perhaps even watching over them lovingly as suggested by the title.

Richard Brautigan, the author, imagines a technological paradise where machines enable a return to a natural, yet technologically enhanced way of life. This vision reflects a certain era's hopes for the future, which stood in stark contrast to the more dystopian views presented by other authors of science fiction - where technology becomes a threat to humanity's very survival.

The poem's setting does not exhibit a fear of a Mechanical Planet or offer a critique like many science fiction narratives. Instead, it is infused with a cautious optimism about technology's ability to improve human existence and is reminiscent of utopian science fiction, which envisions a better world made possible by technological progress.
